Women for Change Demands Immediate Cessation of Unauthorised Name Use by the City of Cape Town
We, Women for Change, wish to address a matter of grave concern regarding the unauthorised use of our organisation’s name by the City of Cape Town. In the past months, we have been notified by several community leaders who questioned our involvement due to the assumption of receiving funding from the City.
We want to clarify that Women for Change has never received any funding from any government institution in South Africa, including the City of Cape Town.
Using our organisation’s name is unethical, misrepresents our organisation’s involvement, and violates the very essence of our mission. Despite attempts to rectify this issue, including issuing a cease and desist letter by our legal representative on 6 March 2024, the City of Cape Town has continued to use our name. Recent publication of online articles further underscores their disregard for our rights and integrity.
We urge the City of Cape Town to immediately cease using the name Women for Change in any of their programs. Failure to comply will result in further legal action.
As an organisation driven by the relentless pursuit of empowerment and positive change, we are disappointed by such action. We remain committed to ending GBVF and empowering women, children and communities. We will not tolerate any exploitation or misrepresentation of our organisation for the benefit of others.
